AROUND THE STATE

Perennial Artisan Ales, St. Louis

Established in 2011, Perennial Artisan Ales is a relative newcomer in the craft beer world. But that hasn’t stopped them from delivering bold, new, and unique beers. Its focus is on creating brews for the—as their brewers call it—“adventurous” craft beer drinker. They offer a wide range of Belgian- and American-style beers, using locally produced and organic ingredients as much as possible, and even aging some of their beers in previously used wine or spirit barrels.

They have experimented with fruits, flowers, nuts, and even squash. A perusal of their beer list reveals selections ranging from simple favorites, such as a dry-hopped Belgian pale ale, to unusual seasonals, like an American brown ale brewed with maple-roasted squash, the eyebrow-raising rye barrel–aged Mexican chocolate stout, or a wild yeast–fermented saison aged in French oak wine barrels with Missouri-grown wine grapes. Adventurous? Maybe. Delicious? Yes.
